Lost Generation
An app-based multimedia exhibition by the Volksbund for those teaching young adults is scheduled to be available here from October 2014 onwards. The basic concept is that avatars based on people who really lived at the time will vividly illustrate the time of the First World War by describing it from their respective personal perspective.
"Wie der Krieg das Leben in Emmendingen beeinflusst"
Emmendingen's beautiful margrave's castle is home to the town museum, which will be displaying artefacts and contemporary objects in a special exhibition area to mark the centenary of the First World War. The exhibition intends to reflect and illustrate the impact the war had on life in Emmendingen.

Offenburg during the First World War
In August 1914, the usually staid citizens of Offenburg were also carried away by an indescribable wave of enthusiasm when the outbreak of the war was announced on 1 August 1914. The Museum im Ritterhaus section on 'recent local history' shows how the town fared during the First World War: Offenburg was one of the few towns to be targeted by bombing. The bombs hit the railway station and central areas of the town centre, considerably denting the initial wave of enthusiasm for the war. The local history helps schoolchildren to relate to and understand the bigger issues of the First World War. The guided tour is accompanied by educational material from the town archive.

People at War
Travelling exhibition
The exhibition 'People at War' has been put together to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. It does not want to address the usual national or military history aspects, instead focusing on people, who are at the mercy of modern warfare as individuals, as perpetrators and/or as victims. The exhibition dares to go beyond established borderlines. German and French historians jointly reconstructed the Upper Rhine region as a historical experiential space of war but also of peace. The exhibition is a Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg and Archives Départementales Du Haut-Rhin joint project.
